If cost were the deciding factor, many good and holy decisions would never be made. At the same time, not every good thing is meant for every person, every season, or every budget.
Discernment sits between two extremes:
- Saying yes out of guilt or pressure
- Saying no out of fear or panic
Faithful discernment asks a better question: Is this a responsible, prayerful decision for us right now?
Fundraising, Stewardship, and Responsibility
Jonathan and Amanda also address concerns around fundraising for SEEK—especially among students and families who feel uncomfortable asking for support.
Fundraising, when done well, isn’t about entitlement or manipulation. It can actually teach:
- Responsibility
- Accountability
- Clear communication
- Stewardship of other people’s generosity
They emphasize that fundraising should never replace budgeting or personal responsibility—but it can be part of a well-discerned plan.
Prudence Still Matters
A recurring theme in the conversation is balance.
Encounters with Christ, vocation clarity, and conversion cannot be measured in dollars—but prudence still matters. Going into unnecessary debt, ignoring financial realities, or bypassing family obligations are real concerns that deserve attention.
Faithful generosity does not mean ignoring limits. In many cases, saying no is just as faithful as saying yes.
Discernment Looks Different for Every Family
Jonathan and Amanda are clear: there is no universal answer.
For some, SEEK is a powerful and timely investment.
For others, it may not be the right choice right now—and that doesn’t mean a lack of faith.
What matters most is learning how to make money decisions without panic, guilt, or pressure, and instead with peace, clarity, and trust.
